Enlightenment Through Motherhood (Kindle Edition)

Enlightenment Through Motherhood
Enlightenment Through Motherhood (Kindle Edition)
By Astra Niedra

Review & Description

"Enlightenment Through Motherhood is absolutely brilliant! This book is just what the world needs now..." Sidra Stone, PhD

"Enlightenment indeed! I hope many women have the opportunity to read Astra's book. ... [her] journey is familiar, delightfully written and inspiring." Susan Ross, midwife, birth educator and author of Birth Right

"As a mum of a 4-year-old boy and 2-year-old girl, and 71/2 months pregnant with the third, it's just what I needed." Kasia

Some of the greatest discoveries have been of things countless people have witnessed each day but did not realise the significance of. The latest such discovery is that the tasks mothers do on a daily basis as part of their role, and the skills they develop in doing them, are exactly the same as the practices and abilities promoted in many spiritual traditions for the attainment of enlightenment.

This inspiring book takes you on a journey of discovery which will lift your spirits while grounding you in the unshakable understanding that motherhood is the greatest and most unrelenting path to greater consciousness.

According to Dr Sidra Stone, notable psychotherapist and teacher, "... This book is just what the world needs now as our planet continues to move towards political and ecological disaster while the patriarchal systems that still dominate our thinking continue to devalue everything traditionally - and biologically - female.

"In a most perfect balance of yin and yang, of logic and feeling, of humor and gravity, Astra Niedra reclaims for all human beings – not just women – a precious element of that which is truly sacred in life. Her simple, spellbinding stories, her keen intellect, and her unfailing humor make this book a pleasure to read.

"Here is a new way of thinking of spirituality, of valuing our humanity while living a spirit-infused life, and a fascinating (and novel) path to enlightenment! It’s a consciousness changer and I loved it.""Enlightenment Through Motherhood is absolutely brilliant! This book is just what the world needs now..." Sidra Stone, PhD

Review & Description

Telling Tales is about the bonds between mothers and their children, their mates, and their families, but also about the imperative relationship between mothers and their friends. No woman, despite how urgently we wish to be sometimes, is an island - and our life preservers can be the phone calls, the understanding nods, and the time our friends take to share our burdens, our stories and our lives. Telling Tales is a life jacket to grasp when you need just a little something to make you smile and hold up your head, turn your face to the world and think, "I'm not alone, and I can do this."Telling Tales is about the bonds between mothers and their children, their mates, and their families, but also about the imperative relationship between mothers and their friends. Review & Description

This is a short and sassy guide of truths to pregnancy. This is not for the light hearted, although I do encourage closet readers. However, they will need to have a good excuse as to why they are sitting in the closet laughing hysterically to themselves. This guide allows women to laugh and enjoy their pregnancy, even the most embarrassing of symptoms. As these are all very common with pregnancy but in such a secretive and judgmental world many women do not feel comfortable discussing these topics.

This book is very educational and will help many women feel more comfortable in their temporary new body that seems to be changing in many ways. With the vast number of hormones taking over, many women do not know what to truly expect when they are expecting. This is not complete textbook material as with Melissa Over's witty and twisted humor, many embarrassing experiences, and very sarcastic thoughts added in makes this the best pregnancy guide ever, while giving a good laugh, enjoyable time, and facts all at once.

Review & Description

Quicklets: Learn more. Read less.

The Shack is a powerful story of the transformation of a bitter, grieving father into a man of God with a heart full of love and forgiveness. Told by Willie, the loyal, though skeptical, best friend of Mackenzie Allen Phillips, The Shack begins in the midst of Mack’s “Great Sadness,” which descended on him following the abduction and apparent murder of his six-year-old daughter Missy. Ravaged by grief and guilt, he lives with a darkness that threatens to consume him and his relationship with his wife Nan and their other five children.

Then, on an icy winter day, Mack receives a strange invitation to “Meet me at the shack this weekend. Love, Papa.” Trembling with both fear and anticipation, Mack goes back to the hated scene of his personal hell where, instead of his abusive father, he encounters God in the strangest forms he could have imagined.

An international best-seller; The Shack has sold over 14 million copies; has been translated into Spanish, German, and Croatian; and can be found in paperback, hardback, CD, Kindle, and Audible Audio.

BOOK EXCERPT

From the Chapter 1 Summary:

After a moving and intriguing introduction by Mack’s good friend, the writer settles down to tell what happened in a straightforward manner with not a little “best-friend” skepticism and humor. The stories of Mack’s troubled childhood and the single worst event of his life converge as his friend narrates a tale that is every parent’s worst nightmare, with compassion and appropriate outrage.

Working from his home Mack sets out in his lounging clothes and slippers to get the mail from the ice-bound mail box on the street in front of his house. Not only does he find a perplexing and somewhat disturbing note in the mail box, he also endures the indignity and pain of falling on the ice and then awkwardly getting to his feet without losing any of his mail in the fallen sleet.

He makes it back to the warmth of his home, and there he reads the strange invitation that will change his life forever. Disturbed by the wording and where he is being invited, Mack almost discards the note but something compels him to keep it. Maybe it isn’t a mistake, but why would anyone write him such a note? It’s cruel and senseless. He doesn’t ever intend to go back there, and the author of the note, if he is the real author, is the last person he ever wants to see.

The story behind this bizarre note has to be told and the writer tells it, even though he’d rather forget it as much as Mack wishes it had never happened. But it did happen. It was on a vacation at a mountain lake that his family is ripped apart in the cruelest way possible. As Mack attempts to save his son, Josh, from drowning under an over-turned canoe, an evil presence continues its murderous pattern. Its newest target is sweet Missy, the joy of Mack's heart and the innocent victim of a terrible sickness that threatens to destroy them all in the “Great Sadness” that follows.

A father impacts every aspect of his daughter's life--for her entire life. Fathers model for their daughters how women should be treated, how men should act, and how a man shows healthy love and affection toward a woman. And, perhaps most importantly, he sets the standard for how his daughter feels she deserves to be treated by men. It's plain to see that this is a big responsibility and one that is not always easy to carry out.

In That's My Girl, parenting expert Rick Johnson shows men how to develop the close relationships with their daughters that they both crave. Rick's plainspoken common sense, wisdom, and humor meets dads right where they are with stories and advice that will change their relationships with their daughters for life.

Any man who wants to be the best dad possible to his daughter, as well as mothers and adult daughters seeking to understand the men in their lives, will love this hope-filled book. Read more

The Spirit of Christmas and You: 4 Classic Short Stories on the Meaning of Christmas (Kindle Edition)
By Jon Bjarnason

Review & Description

“Be the Present by Being Present”

This book should be read with the Christmas season in mind. It teaches in part how you can, as a busy and active 21st century business owner, executive, entrepreneur or leader, give your family the special gift of YOU. Giving you a step-by-step guide of “being the present by being present.” It also portrays the classic meaning of Christmas — a meaning we sometimes tend to forget in the hustle and bustle of modern life. This meaning is not found in new toys and gadgets, but in the importance of family.

In this book you will get an insight into a quick and simple process of how you can:

· Easily get into a habit of never forgetting anything
· Never ever lose an idea
· Process your ideas, tasks and to-do’s
· Regain and keep your daily focus
· Keep your focus when talking to loved ones
· Always be present — instead of lost in your thoughts
· Free your mind and get the creative juices flowing
· Upgrade your mind — giving it more processing power
· Stop your mind from interrupting you while interacting with people
· Avoid the Scrooge Effect — being absent-minded on Christmas — mulling over an idea or a work-related problem instead of:
o Being present for the people that matter in your life
o Enjoying The True Meaning of Christmas

Take these simple steps and form a very powerful habit, to give your family an incredible and invaluable gift at Christmas this year. Give yourself a special gift this year. Be the Present by Being Present.

Jon Bjarnason, The Learning Boss — has been helping business owners and executives create more time for the things that matter in their lives. In this book he gives you an insight into how he changed his Christmas with one simple habit and the stories that got him — on the straight and narrow — avoiding the Scrooge Effect.

John Kendrick Bangs published these short Christmas tales in 1912 and now on the eve of their centennial anniversary — they are introduced to a new generation. In this very specially formatted Kindle edition you get to see the original illustrations created by Arthur E. Becher.

- Excerpts from the Publisher’s Preface:
This series of ReKindled Classics begins with a classic Christmas short story, selected from “The Little Book of Christmas” written by John Kendrick Bangs. The book was originally published in 1912 by Little, Brown, & Co., and is brought to a new audience on the eve of its centennial anniversary. Each of the stories in “The Little Book of Christmas” takes place during the joyful holiday season, portraying the lives of friends and families with Bangs’ signature humor and affection. The stories transport the reader to simpler times, while remaining relatable in the modern world.

This book gives you insight into the authors’ life in a brand new, detailed biography, painting a picture of a social elite that transformed his age with his humorous work as a writer, editor and lecturer. In this edition you get to see this book fully illustrated for the first time in this format and as the author originally wanted.

This book also gives an insight into a step-by-step guide for you — as an active and busy person of the 21st century — to learn the sage wisdom and importance of note-taking with a simple, quick process. Today’s business leaders, masters of productivity and multitasking, have for many years advised those seeking success in their venture to keep a diary with notes of their day. New knowledge of how our brain works shows how important note taking is to keeping your focus; this book will give you a clear how-to to do just that.

This book is the perfect Christmas gift for the busy person of the 21st century. If you know one (as their parent, partner or their child), I know for a fact these short Christmas tales will be a perfect present, known to touch the hearts of even the hardest of modern age Scrooges.“Be the Present by Being Present”

Early praise for The Dee View . . .
“The Dee View has got it all. The highs, the lows, and the sometime horrors of living, loving, and parenting in the 21st century. My snark hat goes off to her!”
Rachel Thompson
Author
The Mancode: Exposed – Kindle Bestseller

“This book was a riot! Profane at times, and poignant at others. Just like Dee Dee has an opinion about everything, you will have an opinion about this book!”
Amber Scott
Author
Irish Moon, #1 Kindle Historical Romance

Overview:
Dee Dee is just a bitter mother, a chick with a potty mouth, who didn’t expect it to be this hard. She love Martinis (she swears, she didn’t drink before she had kids), parties (socially sanctioned places to gather and drink) and kids who are quiet. She is a full-figured girl, redefining Fat Chic while wearing very high heels or the world’s most expensive orthopedic shoes.

Dee Dee has an opinion on everything, and as you can probably tell already, she's dying to share it in "The Dee View!"

More Praise for The Dee View...
“Seldom do I laugh so hard that I am brought to tears. The Dee View made a habit of it! How she sees the world is so very unique, and because of that it is so very hysterical. And, yes, I do mean hysterical. You too, will be laughing like a hyena on X.”
Carolyn McCray
Author
30 Pieces of Silver, #1 in both Men’s Adventure and War/Military

“Get ready to laugh. No, seriously. Dee Dee can take bathing to a whole new level. And her Big Picture Parenting truly is patent worthy! Just be warned. Some serious potty mouth alerts, but oh so worth it!”
Elena Gray
Author
WidowMaker

“Sassy and sweet. That is how I would describe this book. Dee Dee has sass to spare, but then she comes back in with the sweet. Needless to say, I devoured this book in one sitting. Now I need a second helping!”
Kelli McCracken

“The Dee View has got it all. The highs, the lows, and the sometime horrors of living, loving, and parenting in the 21st century. My snark hat goes off to her!”
Rachel Thompson

Review & Description

Tales From the Pantry: Random Rants & Musings of a Stay-at-Home Mom is a collection of witty, funny, and sometimes gut-wrenching stories told by a 40-something mother of two small children. Based upon the popular blog 'Don't Make Me Count to Three!', Shari Owen Brown uses humor to navigate the daily slings and arrows of motherhood. Many parents can relate to the often unspoken challenges of child rearing. And for those who have yet to have children...consider yourself warned! Shari found herself the last of her friends to have children and was then SHOCKED to discover all of the lies she had been told! Why hadn't anybody mentioned these things before?!! It was like a secret club of parents who dared not tell the truth or else none of their friends would have children, leaving them all alone in their own private nightmare! Shari blows the lid off of these unspoken challenges & discusses daily life in a funny and entertaining way that still manages to speak the truth. It is a great outlet for parents to laugh at themselves through Shari, and realize that they are not alone or crazy (well, maybe just a little!) for feeling the way that they do. Read more

Review & Description

In this second book from the Duggars, they focus on the principles that equip them to face life's challenges—drawing from their most recent challenge with the 3-month premature birth of their newest child, Josie. They also share the new challenges their older children are facing as they prepare for adult life. Central to the book is a section on the principles that the Duggars have consistently taught their children. These simply worded principles are basic to the Duggar family and are shared in a way that other parents can incorporate in their own homes. A special chapter on homeschooling gives valuable information to parents who are considering this route or are already invested in it.

The world continues to be amazed by their nineteen well-groomed, well-behaved, well-schooled children and their home life, which focuses on family, financial responsibility, fun—and must importantly, faith. The Duggars show how parents can succeed whether they’re rearing a single child or several.

Review & Description

Christine Hartmann’s mother valued control above all else, yet one event appeared beyond her command: the timing of her own death. Not to be denied there either, two decades in advance Irmgard Hartmann chose the date on which to end her life. And her next step was to tell her daughter all about it. For twenty years, Irmgard maintained an unwavering goal, to commit suicide at age seventy. She managed her chronic hypertension, stayed healthy and active, and lived life to the fullest. Meanwhile, Christine fought desperately against the decision. When Irmgard wouldn’t listen, the only way to remain part of her life was for Christine to swallow her mother’s plans—hook, line, and sinker.

Christine’s father, as it turned out, prepared too slowly for old age. Before he had made any decision, fate disabled him through a series of strokes. Confined to a nursing home, severely impaired by dementia and frustrated by his circumstances, his life epitomized the predicament her mother wanted to avoid.

If you enjoyed I Don't Know How She Does It you'll love this!

Single Motherhood At 40 Is A Very Bumpy Ride!

When 40 year old singleton Molly becomes pregnant to her commitment-phobe long-term lover, he runs. Weary of her fashionable Notting Hill existence, Molly seeks the simple country life with her baby. She gets no further than a tiny apartment in Kew Gardens, one of London's greenest, prettiest, and wealthiest, suburbs. There she finds new friends at a post-natal group. They bond not only over baby talk but in their collective but distant lust for Caroline's exotic student gardener Christophe, a French perfumier studying orchids at Kew Gardens. Broke and alone, Molly struggles to fit in. She battles with the love for her baby's father that deepens with every tiny development of their child that he's missing; the surprising, secret advances of Christophe; and the universal questions of motherhood: to stay at home or go to work. Unlike her new friends, Molly has no choice, but which comes first, the childminder or the job? And whilst Molly's old single friends are convinced she's 'gone over to the other side', she discovers her newly acquired married ones are more than a little wary of her single status.

"A tender, entertaining read with some lovely set passages and an unexpected, heart-warming conclusion." THE BOOKSELLER

"A very funny story, bound to appeal to any new mum." BEST

"Highly amusing, perceptive tale." FAMILIES MAGAZINE

"Entertaining mum-lit comedy." BABY & YOU

You need multi-region PAL/NTSC DVD player to view it in USA/Canada: LANGUAGES: Swedish ( Dolby Digital 2.0 ), English ( Subtitles ), SPECIAL FEATURES: Black & White, Filmographies, Interactive Menu, Production Notes, Scene Access, Trailer(s), SYNOPSIS: On an island, Karin, a recently released mentally sick young woman, is spending her vacation with her husband Martin, a doctor, her father David, a writer just back from Switzerland, and her younger brother Fredrick (Minus). Karin is suffering from hallucinations and hysteria. She thinks she is visited by God. SCREENED/AWARDED AT: BAFTA Awards, Berlin International Film Festival, Oscar Academy Awards, ...Through a Glass Darkly ( SÃ¥som i en spegel )Ingmar Bergman's gloomy but incisive 1961 classic about a woman's descent into madness--and the inability of her family to mitigate her pain with love--is still a stunning work. Harriet Andersson plays Karin, a psychiatric patient newly released from a hospital and staying in the island home where she found some measure of security in childhood. Instead of getting on her feet, however, Karin begins disintegrating after realizing she no longer loves her physician husband (Max von Sydow) and is being rather coldly observed by her writer father (Gunnar Bjornstrand), whose distant fascination with her plight is recorded in his daily journal. Hearing voices, believing God to be a spider, and pursuing an incestuous relationship with her brother, Karin slips into an inexorable decline, objectively witnessed by those too emotionally frozen to help. The first of Bergman's trilogy on themes of faith and isolation (the other entries being Winter Light and The Silence), Through a Glass Darkly finds the legendary Swedish filmmaker at an artistic and philosophical peak. --Tom Keogh Read more

77 Ways to Get Your Kids to Help at Home (77 Ways to Parent Series) (Kindle Edition)

77 Ways to Get Your Kids to Help at Home (77 Ways to Parent Series)
77 Ways to Get Your Kids to Help at Home (77 Ways to Parent Series) (Kindle Edition)
By Judy H. Wright

Review & Description

We want our children to grow and prosper but we also want some cooperation and help in keeping the house and chores done. Our children may very well think that our only goal is to get them to clean the laundry room and keep them from going to the mall. But in a parent’s mind, we see our goal as raising a responsible, trustworthy human being who will be able to stand on his own tow feet in life. (It sure helps to have a clean laundry room, however.)

For all of us in learning to do new jobs, we not only need to learn the new skill, methods and equipment but the determination to stick with it and gain efficiency, speed and accuracy. We all need help and the only way our children can learn good work habits is with parental assistance, supervision and cooperation. This takes much longer than simply drawing up a job chart or pasting a star on a forehead. It takes patience, patience and more patience.

If we look at this time spent teaching our children how to work as an irritant, both the parent and child lose. However, if we look upon this time as working closely with a good friend to insure his life long success, it will be time well spent.

There is no harder occupation in the world than parenting. We receive little or no training for it and our children try very hard to convince us that we are doing it incorrectly.

Respect is a two way street. Parents must walk it with their children. But sharing the journey to a successful contributing life with someone you love is one of the real joys of parenting.

However, I am convinced that as parents we need to stop feeling so guilty when we fall short of our own and others expectations. We are all doing the best we can with the information and experiences that we have right now. The fact that you attend training sessions or buy books such as this indicates that you are trying to do better. Our goal should be to be a better parent today than we were yesterday and to maintain an atmosphere in the home where mutual respect, support and love are present.

Good luck and God bless. You do an important work.
